About Us - Our food digester

Our innovative approach focuses on addressing multiple environmental issues related to food waste disposal. We use an advanced aerobic enzymatic breakdown process to break down food waste into its smallest components, including fats that are converted into fatty acids and glycerol.

This has direct implications for the following problems:
– CO2 emissions from garbage trucks: Traditional food waste disposal requires frequent collection by garbage trucks, which generates significant CO2 emissions. Our method eliminates the need for these polluting vehicles.
– Methane emissions from landfills: Food waste in landfills produces significant amounts of methane, a very potent greenhouse gas. Our technology reduces the amount of food waste ending up in landfills, which significantly reduces methane emissions.
– Dirty, smelly and vermin-attracting containers: Traditional green containers used to store food waste are often sources of odor nuisance and attract vermin. We offer a hygienic and more environmentally friendly alternative solution.

What we do

Our composting machines perform food waste processing on site, eliminating the need for garbage trucks and smelly containers. Here’s how the process works:
– On-site waste processing: Our machines break down food waste on site, eliminating the need to transport it.
– Discharge to water treatment plants: The processed food waste is led to water treatment plants in a hygienic and environmentally friendly manner via the existing sewer network.
– Biogas production: The 100% organic waste that comes from our machines is used by bacteria in water treatment plants to produce biogas.

Why is this a better approach?
– Environmentally friendly: Our method uses existing infrastructure, such as sewerage and water treatment plants, and promotes the production of renewable energy in the form of biogas. Food waste no longer ends up in landfill where the greenhouse gas methane is created.

– Efficient: By breaking down food waste on site, we avoid unnecessary transport with garbage trucks and the resulting CO2 emissions. Employees also spend less time processing food waste in a our digester machine.

– Circular solution: The biogas produced is a valuable product that can be used for energy generation, creating a circular approach to food waste management.

This innovative process offers a win-win-win situation for the environment, companies and society as a whole. It reduces pollution, minimizes transport costs and contributes to sustainable energy production.

The history of our food digester.

Since 2017, the owners of GS-Food Waste Digesters B.V. have been actively working to address the issue of fossil plastic in single-use packaging. To achieve this, they established GS-Green Packaging B.V. This company assists other businesses looking to transition from fossil-based packaging to alternatives such as PLA, PHA, hemp, bagasse, and other sustainable materials.

The advantage of plant-based materials is that they generally have a lower CO2 footprint, require less energy for production, and offer more environmentally-friendly end-of-life options. While fossil plastics primarily focus on recycling, plant-based packaging offers a wider range of safe disposal methods, including industrial composting, toxin-free incineration, and recycling.

Numerous products made from plant-based materials, such as bottles, films, and food packaging, are already available in the market. Many of the businesses seeking help from GS-Green Packaging were involved in food preparation, including restaurants, catering services, and food processing companies. They all aimed to work more sustainably and reduce their carbon footprint.

One common issue observed at these locations was not only the problem of fossil plastic but also food waste. Concerns like odors, pests, inconvenience, and high costs posed challenges without apparent solutions.

Upon a closer examination of the food waste problem, it became evident that the current food waste management system is outdated and environmentally burdensome. Food waste is a significant contributor to methane emissions worldwide, and maintaining the current food waste processing system consumes substantial resources. Consider that approximately 70% of food waste consists of water. This means that every garbage truck collecting food waste is filled to 70% with water, resulting in a wastage of capacity and resources for collecting solid food waste.

These observations prompted the idea that things could be done differently. The current system is no longer suitable for our times. The question arose: How can we effectively integrate food waste into the circular economy in a simple manner using existing systems? This question led to the creation of BMD what is now renamed as GS-Food Waste Digesters B.V.

Why not develop a machine that breaks down food waste on-site, utilizes the water within food waste as a means of transport, and transforms 100% organic waste into biogas through the sewage system? This approach is exceptionally circular.

Our food digester

We understand the importance of having enough food waste capacity, especially during busy periods like holidays. Providing the right sized of machine is essential to offering reliability even during the busiest times of the year. It’s important to note that different types of food waste decompose at varying rates. Foods like dense-fiber vegetables and chicken bones require more time for breakdown. To better serve your unique needs, we require insights into your daily waste generation volume and types, particularly during peak periods.

We categorize our food digester in 3 different sections. Our small food digester, medium and large section. Click the section that you want to know more about, and we guide you to this part of our website. Let’s solve the problem of food waste with the right food digester for your company.

Small size

These machines have a daily food waste processing capacity of 80 to 400 liters.

Medium size

These machines have a daily food waste processing capacity of 800 to 1600 liters.

Large size

These machines have a daily food waste processing capacity of 4000  to 16000 liters.

Our food digester for the future

For food waste and compostable packaging

The idea of using the GS-Food Waste Digester to break down plant-based packaging is fascinating. This would be a significant step in converting more usable waste into valuable resources, such as bio-gas, while simultaneously processing the food waste associated with these packaging materials in the composting machine. However, the execution of this idea presents some challenges, primarily due to the diversity of plant-based materials used for food packaging.

To achieve this goal, thorough research into the composition and properties of various plant-based materials is necessary. Additionally, we must find suitable enzymes to efficiently break down these materials. This is a time-consuming process that requires experiments and adjustments to the machine.
Several materials are already possible to break down in our machine. Like potato starch products, sugarcane pump, foamed PLA and paper pulp material.

Methane (CH4) is a potent greenhouse gas that plays a significant role in global warming. It is the second most important greenhouse gas after carbon dioxide (CO2) in terms of its impact on climate change.

Here are some of the benefits of using a liquid food waste digester compared to a curbside collection system.

The different building blocks that come out of food waste when digested by enzymes are simple sugars, amino acids, and fatty acids.

Become a consultant for our food digester

Are you interested in becoming a consultant for our brand? Let’s get in touch and see if there is a match.

UPDATE: We have decided to put a hold on new consultant until Q4 2024.

GS-Food Waste Digesters B.V., recently made a bold decision: We temporarily halt new reseller recruitment. Why? Because we are working on groundbreaking new composting machine design. These machines are set to redefine waste management, being more efficient, eco-friendly, and cost-effective.

But GS’s vision doesn’t stop there. we’re planning to offer our consultants not just machines, but a complete package. This includes intensive training, marketing support, and access to a range of additional products and services. The goal? To create a strong network of consultants who can offer comprehensive waste management solutions.
